Today, July 24,2020, is a day the world collectively celebrates Self-Care. The date 7/24 symbolizes the value of self-care 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Self-care is increasingly becoming an essential aspect of health. As the world battles the COVID19 pandemic, now more than ever, we must prioritize self-care in other for us to increase our resistance to diseases and keep ourselves mentally well.
When we take the time to care for ourselves, we enjoy improved health outcomes, a better relationship with ourselves and others, an enhanced sense of self, increased resilience, to name a few. Asking for help is a form of social self-care. Every one of us belongs to a social group. Use your support system to help lift some of your burdens. Among its many benefits, asking for help helps you to feel less stressed and helps you find strategies and ways to cope.
- DANCE
Dancing is a type of physical self-care. It’s a form of exercise for people of all ages, shapes, and sizes. When you dance, you reduce stress and tension in your body, you feel happy, and experience improved mental functioning. So go ahead, turn on the music, and shake your body!
- SLEEP
Sleep is a form of physical self-care. Restis not a luxury but a vital necessity of life. It is recommended that adults over the age of 25 should sleep at least 7 – 9 hours daily. When we do not sleep enough hours or sleep too much, it leads to mental and physical health problems. Adequate sleep allows us to be more productive and enjoy a general satisfaction of life.
