About Me

Adijat O. Ogunyemi, DSW, LMSW  is a Therapist, Professor, and Social Innovator. For over a decade, she has worked with individuals, families, and communities to improve their functioning and quality of life through better mental health. Dr. Ogunyemi received her Doctor of Social Work degree from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California, her Master and Bachelor of Social Work degrees from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. She is a fully Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both Clinical & Macro Specialty in the State of Michigan. 

In her primary appointment as a Therapist (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) in a health center, Dr. Ogunyemi provides mental health and substance abuse treatment to individuals in medically underserved communities. She is an Adjunct Professor of Sociology in the Department of Social Science at Wayne County Community College District, Detroit, MI. 

As a Social Innovator, Dr. Ogunyemi works to close healthcare gaps by advocating for mental health promotion, protection, and treatment through many forms of speaking engagements such as community outreach, staff education seminars, wellness workshops, and leadership training. She also created the Show Up For Health initiative to improve patient engagement in primary and preventive care services.

  • Recruitment Boot Camp: Mental Health Staff Edition (2021 & 2022) The Association of Clinicians for the Underserved STAR2 Center Learning collaborative was a three-month program that focused on the special considerations needed to recruit a diverse, mission-driven, and patient-centered mental health workforce. The boot camp leveraged the STAR2 Center’s expertise in recruitment and retention and provided real-world examples through the facilitation provided by expert faculty, Dr. Adijat Ogunyemi.
  • High Stakes Exam and Test Anxiety (2021). The Social Work Mentor Program at Wayne State University was created to successfully nurture and prepare the next generation of social work professionals to complete the social work licensure exam.
